Kaliningrad: A Russian Region, A European Opportunity

Trade missions

International Trade Propmotion Department (ITPD) has got experience in organisation and implementation of trade missions for companies interested in internationlisation of their business. Within the framework of “Support to International Business Cooperation in Kaliningrad Region” project ITPD staff organised trade missions to Lithuania, Latvia and Poland. Managers representing 17 companies took part in the trade missions. Among the activities of the missions were participation in exhibitions, business-contact fairs, visits to foreign companies of relevant profiles and study-tour to a technopark were organised.

Trade mission to Klaipeda (Lithuania)

On February 25-26, 2008 a trade mission to Klaipeda was implemented in cooperation with Klaipeda Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Crafts. The mission involved representatives of 9 Kaliningrad companies. A business-contact fair was organised with 10 Lithuanian companies participating. In the course of the trade mission visits to furniture exhibition rooms, Klaipeda Free Economic Zone, Klaipeda Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Crafts were organised, where presentations of the above entities were made.

Trade mission to Poznan (Poland)

On May 27-30, 2008 a trade mission to the international furniture exhibition “MEBLE 2008” and exhibition of home interior and design “DOMEXPO” was implemented. With over 550 exhibitors from Germany, Czech Republic, Great Britain, Hungary, Italy, Spain, Turkey and Ukraine representing furniture production, upholstering and decorative fabrics, illumination, ceramics etc., the event was an excellent opportunity for Kaliningrad participants to establish new contacts and search for cooperation possibilities.

Trade mission to Vilnius (Lithuania)

On March 27-28, 2008 a trade mission to Vilnius (Lithuania) was implemented, with the main focus on participation in “Furniture 2008” and “BMTf-2008” exhibitions. A business contact fair “Wood 2008” was organised – a special event for representatives of 100-150 companies from Italy, Sweden, Great Britain, Germany, Poland, Estonia, Norway, Latvia, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Lithuania, India, China and Russia. The idea behind the event is business partner search for small and medium-sized enterprises in the field of woodworking and furniture manufacturing, development and support to businesses, and fostering their competitiveness on the market. The event was attended by 9 Kaliningrad businessmen.

Trade mission to Riga (Latvia)

On March 11-13, 2008 a trade mission to Riga (Latvia) was organised. The key element of the mission was participation in “Maja I” construction exhibition. The exhibition’s main focus was on architecture, design, engineering, construction, and other fields related to house improvement.
The 22nd construction exhibition “Maja I” was attended by over 60000 people. It holds the record as the biggest construction event, as exhibition space covered 2.5 hectares with more than 600 exhibitors present. The trade mission involved 5 participants representing Kaliningrad companies, more than 10 “b-to-b” meetings were held with representatives of Lativian, Polish and German enterprises.
